Generation N

I am tired of information
Flashing on cheap plastic, nudging
Me away from the savour of books
And the scratch of pencil on paper.

I am tired of data flooding in
From every device. Blinking red
And green alerts, until context
Loses ground to sound bytes.

I am tired of interruptions disguised
As alarms. Of coconut-milk lattes
Paired with disconnection
As the latest in salvation.

I am tired of the exquisite networks
Of my mind being jump-started for revenue.
I am tired of following the market
The news, the latest twist in the meme.

Let us be the generation that discovers
Silence amidst the noise.
